Five Ways To Select A Calgary Welding Company
Posted by admin / February 2nd, 2011
If you are an oil and gas company, one of the numbers you’ll have to include in your rolodex (or contact list on your iPhone) is a welding company. Knowledgeable welders will be able to diagnose the problem you have quickly and fix it efficiently.
1) Choose a welder that is certified.
Welders with a CWB, or Canadian Welding Bureau certification, ensure that all welds conducted, including joints, processes and positions, are current and approved by the CWB. They also make sure that weld quality and workmanship are up to par. Another type of certification for welders is ABSA, or the Alberta Boilers Safety Association. This allows a welder to work with pressure vessels and pressure piping, such as that for wells.
2) Look for testimonials or a portfolio.
Reading testimonials or looking at a portfolio of previous work will give you a good idea of the company’s abilities. Finding a company that has a lot of its former projects, or lots of good testimonials, is always a good sign.
3) Flexible hours.
If you need a job done quickly, a welding company that is available on weekends and evenings is very handy. Breaks in pumping equipment or coil tubing don’t always run on a 9-5 schedule.
4) Necessary equipment.
Call ahead, not only for a quote, but to ensure that the company indeed owns the equipment for your fabrication or welding needs. Specialized equipment can include a nitrogen pumper, which is used to start production on a well after it is worked over. Can they provide cementing services as well?
Does the welding company use refurbished parts? Or are they all new? This could be very important down the road, as new parts will normally last longer than old parts.
These tips will help you locate a welding company that is not only certified for the work you need done, but one that will complete your project, whether it be fixing of equipment or commissioning of a new one, on time and on budget.
